Pennine Way Challenge to raise funds for Gurkha Welfare Trust
True Adventure is delighted to be supporting Michael Willis and Bruce Jackman - two septuagenarians - on a Pennine Way Challenge to raise funds for the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT).
Their challenge starts in the Peak District, goes through the Yorkshire Dales, North Pennines, Northumberland, Cheviots, and finishes in the Scottish Borders. The highest point of the trail is 3000ft, all the ascents together total 40,000ft, and 85% of the journey is across fell or moorland. The normal time to complete the route is about 19-20 days. They intend to do it in 14 days!
The GWT is a charity established in 1969 to provide a Welfare Pension for those Gurkhas who were discharged before they earned a Military Pension (i.e., 15 years service), or for their widows. The GWT also provides medical support for all ex-Gurkha Servicemen in Nepal, where there is no NHS, and carries out community aid projects for Gurkha villages - as does the Cairn Trust that builds, equips and maintains schools, which we also wish to support.
Payment can be by cheque made payable to 'The Gurkha Welfare Trust' and sent to Bruce at the address below. Alternatively, if you want to donate via the internet by credit or debit card, then go to www.justgiving.com and type in 'Bruce Jackman' in the 'Sponsor a Friend' box.

True Adventure Support Sherpa Heritage House
Mike Trueman met with Sir Chris Bonington and Pertemba Sherpa at a dinner where the True Adventure’s trek to support the Sherpa Heritage House was promoted. Further details of the trek can be found at http://www.true-adventure.co.uk/who_we_are/charity_treks.phpIndian Himalaya Expeditions for Individuals
In response to significant demand True Adventure will launch an expedition to the India Himalaya for individuals in 2011. Expedition members will be required to attend two team training sessions during the programme. The first of these weekends will take place in July 2010, followed by another weekend in March 2011.
In between team members will have access to their programme manager who will keep them up to date as the programme develops and be available to respond to any questions that members may have. The expedition is scheduled to depart 24th July 2011 and return on 20th August 2011.
The expedition must be fully subscribed to be viable (14+). A full refund of any money paid will be made if there are not enough team members signed up by 1st March 2010.
The Indian Himalaya offer the perfect expedition destination. Team members will trek through some of the most beautiful scenery on earth, with an awesome backdrop of glaciers and mighty snow capped peaks. The project phase will take place in a local school where team members will be able to make a real impact on the quality of life of the local community. At the end there will be an opportunity to visit Taj Mahal; an experience which will never be forgotten.

Chris Bonington Supports Charity Trek
Sir Chris Bonington has backed True Adventure's Charity Trek in 2010 in aid of the Sherpa Heritage House Museum.
The legendary moutaineer is Patron of the Sherpa Heritage House, which was founded by Pertemba Sherpa to give a unique insight into the lives of his people some 50 years ago.
"This will be a great trek giving wonderful views of some of the World's highest peaks, culminating in a visit to the unique Sherpa Heritage House - donated by my old friend Pertmba to his community, to show how the Sherpas lived fifty years ago when I first visited Khumbu. This will be a very special and memorable experience for all." said Sir Chris Bonington.
