Expeditions
Preparation
Fundraising for the expedition is fun and rewarding as team members, with our guidance, learn to manage money and organise a wide range of activities. We work with teams and school leaders on a development programme ahead of each expedition, enabling students to build and plan their own itineraries. This planning generates a sense of ownership and helps to develop team spirit long before leaving the UK. Such thorough preparation ensures that those travelling are well equipped with the skills required on expedition. Teams are encouraged to focus on project planning to ensure that projects are worthwhile and sustainable.
Expedition Phases
Depending on the team's choice of expedition - Adventure/Cultural/Project focussed or a mix of the three, a typical itinerary comprises four specific phases: Acclimatisation, Trek, Project, Rest and Relaxation.
- Acclimatisation - to heat, terrain, or altitude and the culture of the destination country
- Trek - can be one long or perhaps two shorter treks
- Project - a worthwhile and sustainable project within the community which is often the most rewarding part of the expedition
- Rest & Relaxation - time to unwind with friends and try for example sand boarding, white water rafting or just enjoy the local culture
The personal benefits and 'once in a lifetime' experiences of a True Adventure expedition are long lasting and memories will stay with students for many years to come. We hope that students not only gain from the personal and social life skills developed throughout our programme, but will also return from expedition with a greater appreciation of different cultures and environments.
